Ombudsman to offer redress scheme dissatisfied
HIP customers
20th March 2007

The Secretary of State for Trade & Industry has
approved the Ombudsman for Estate Agents
application to run a redress scheme for people who successfully complain about
estate agents.
The OEA have started to flex their muscles and will
have more control over their members in terms of controlling performance on
Home Information Packs.
From 1st June all agents in England & Wales will be
required to join the OEA covering scheme which covers complaints about their
conduct and performance when conducting HIP related business.
There is rumoured to be a redress compensation
facility available that could mean possible awards of up to £25000 should an
estate agent be deemed to have broken any rules.
The scheme is yet another reason for championing
the HIP cause because this will empower consumers and add an extra element of
protection that goes beyond the HIP itself.
