New figures released showing the number of trained
DEA's
25th April 2007

The
official government statistics for the number of Domestic Energy Assessors (DEA's)
disappoint many and confirm that there may be insufficient qualified experts
post June 2007
Despite putting a positive spin
on events there can be no doubt that the latest update from official sources on
the training of the "army" of Domestic Energy Assessors, has come as a
disappointment.
Around 8000 assessors will be
required to help with the new Home
Information Packs in the UK. However with current numbers in training
reaching only 3,500 – not all of whom will complete their course by 1 June -
industry bodies grow increasingly concerned.
Around 1,000 Home Inspectors
have completed training courses and a further 2–300 more are expected to do so
by 1 June. But as Home Condition Reports were sidelined as a HIP component last
summer, these experts may not play a pivotal role early on in the new regime.
