Negativity surrounding HIPS continues
13th April 2007

Despite
the fast approaching start up date for Home Information Packs (HIPS) the
governments plans continue to be heavily criticised.
Our sources reveal that industry
specialists are still fearful of a huge drop in the property sales business once
HIPS become law. At recent
training events for solicitors and conveyancers there was still talk of a last
minute U turn or delay being introduced by the government.
There are rumours that a
government quango or discussion group may have been set up to consider the
potential crisis that may envelop the industry once we enter the new post 1st
June 2007 era.
As ever this kind of negative
gossip is countered with the opposing view that whenever HIPS come in they will
inevitably be problematic and the country will go through a potentially painful
period of transition.
Radical changes in law do not tend to be well
received generally by the public or by industry observers but in the long run
reform is necessary and hopefully both sides of the divide will work together to
make the regulations a success.
There is now less than two months until the
commencement of the regulations.
